Angela Lansbury in straw hat promoting Brazil, advertising the northern Ceara area. Selfie Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.
I have not yet visited Brazil, so my straw hat which has a hat-band advertising Ceara in Brazil must have come from the World Travel Market. The World Travel Market is a trade show held in November in London at a conference centre in the East End of London reached on driverless the monorail. The Elizabeth line will make the East End of London easier to reach. Now let's look at Brazil and Ceara.
Brazil and Ceara Region
The upward accent is on the second a, the last letter of the name Ceara. It is the acute accent, stressed.
The language of Brazil is Portuguese, unlike the rest of South America which speaks Spanish. I shall tell you about the hat, then about Brazil's Ceara region, the author and his novelist's heroine.
Hat Style
The hat is the same shape as a fedora (shown in felt in Wikipedia) which has a crease from the front to the back on the crown. The brim curves up all around. Mine falls over my eyes and has to be lifted to show my face in photos, at which point the hat-band is invisible, hidden behind the brim. Of course, a taller person will see the hat-band, and my face when I look up at them.
Straw hats from central and South America may be sold as Panama hats.
Straw Hat Advantages
1 Light weight.
2 Summery and seaside or countryside look.
3 Suits the South American image.
4 Neutral colour matches everything.
5 Hatbands can be added using ribbon to match your clothes.
Straw Hat Disadvantages
1 So light that it can easily fall off or blow away.
Remedy a) You need ribbons to hold the hat on when looking down from a clifftop, or in breeze on the mountains or at the seaside or in a high wind on a boat.
Needs a double string or ribbon added to hold it on under the chin. The ribbons could be sewn on at the sides. When the hat is worn, if you cannot tie a neat bow, or if the ribbons don't match your outfit, the ribbons can be concealed under the hair at the back.
Remedy b) In a hurry, you can tie a scarf over the top, over both ears. Tie a bow at the top or under your chin or behind your head and under your hair.
2 The straw in the top of the crown can scratch your head.
Remedy. If so, wear a lighter cloth hat or scarf underneath. You can tuck in the scarf so that it does not show. Or use a scarf to match your outfit and match the hatband.

FORTELEZA
The capital city of Ceara is Forteleza, a seafront, skyscraper city.
I remember the capital's name as fort, el as in hotel, eza easy, ah.
In the area, buy cheap clothes and hammocks, at the beachfront fair, market near the cathedral, shopping mall(s) and 24 hour supermarkets.
