Nicosia's museums were closed on a Monday in early June but the Motorcycle Museum was open. For five dollars per person we had a guided tour by enthusiast Nico, the bike restorer, who lovingly transforms the bikes from ramshackle and rusty to gleaming.
My husband was most interested in Nortons, like the first bike he had owned. He also looked at the old Morgan car, and into the car magazines at his early Triumph Dolomite Sprint.
What were my favourites? I liked the sidecars for ladies. Also the safe BMW bike, a bit like a tuk-tuk, but the casing protected not passengers but the solo rider, with headrests either side, like airline seats. Nico said, "The driver didn't have to wear a helmet!"
Souvenirs included tee-shirts, clocks, and fridge magnets.
The location is right in the middle of the old pedestrian area of Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia. Signposts on corners point the way.
Another motorcycle museum with the same owner is elsewhere in Cyprus, rotating locations.
