A vegetarian friend invited us to lunch at Komala Vilas in Little India, Singapore.
The queue outside on Easter Friday suggested that either the food was good or the premises were small.
They had cunningly designated a staff member as queue supervisor. He was directing those who wanted a quick one course meal downstairs, and those wanting a meal which took longer to prepare upstairs.
Cutlery, knife, fork and spoon is provided. However, if you are eating with your hands you may wish to take advantage of the hand washing sinks behind the counter on the ground floor. The toilet is upstairs, a steep flight of stairs.
Food
The best dish taste wise, choice wise and price wise was the rice thali - which included a sweet semolina dessert!
Served on a green banana leaf. Generous amount of white rice, but we were surprised not to be offered the option of basmati rice.My meal was a thicker bread, like a pizza, topped with tomato, onion and mushroom.
I thought it was a bit soggy. Short on substance. My favourite is peshwari naan.
Dessert
They were out of our favourite, Gulub jamun. So we followed their suggestion and went to the cabinet and pointed to our choice from what was available.
Jelabi
Afterwards, I started looking at vegetarian and vegan options worldwide.
