Where Did You Buy That Hat? And those batwing sleeves? Dress of the Day.

Angela Lansbury, in batwing sleeve cardigan over a lace blouse with bell cuffs on the sleeves.

An old song asks, Where did you get that hat? I looked up the song. it was pubished way back in 1888.

My friend Georgia (from London's Writing Circle) asked on Facebook where I had bought a batwing sleeve top.

I replied:

Either in St Lukes, Hatch End, or in the sale at Whirligig, Hatch End.

Or when I was overweight and sleeves were tight, searching for batwing sleeves on Ebay. The bell cuffs are on the blouse underneath, likewise probably bought from those sources.

How To Keep Records

I wish I had kept a handwritten log of every purchase, the way people did years ago.

I used to keep all my online purchase orders and receipts in a box file. labelled shopping and mail order.

Handy Ebay Records

Ebay used to show all your purchases which was really handy a year later when the seasons came around and you wanted another similar pair of boots or to replace a lost umbrella, same style but different colour. Unfortunately, they now show only the last few weeks.

Keeping Labels

If you cut off a label, you could store it in box. Or an address card wallet.

You could pin or stick the label onto an A 4 sheet on which you colour printed the garment, or hat, or gloves, or scarf or shoes.

This would be useful if you wanted to sell the item later on ebay. (Or ensure your descendants knew to sell valuable or vintage items.) Or to leave things in your will.
