Albanian wine - where to try it?

 

Where to try Albanian wine. Albania, of course.

In 2023 you could not buy Albanian wine in London. So part of the novelty of touring in Albania was trying the local wine.

We visited three wineries in Albania. I have described them in previous blogs. You don't see Albanian wine in the UK. Why not?

1 Some wineries are small. They are attached to restaurants, which bottle just for their customers. Because of the weather, vines are grown everywhere. But most of the producers are small and don't have the euipent and expertise for exporting vast quantities.

2 The wines are passable but not, not yet, spectacularly good. Not worthwhile for international companies to invest in experiments or comparisons to produce only the best varities in huge quantities.

3 The big producers running winery tours are fully busy with their restaurant and tours and farming for local production, including other fruit and vegetables as well as wine.
