A nostalgic and tuneful, melodic memory of Ukraine.

The shtetl was a small town. A dorf was a village. Yiddish is German, written in the Hebrew alphabet.

This video is entrancing.
Fiddler on the Roof is a romantic recreation of the old world including its comical moments. In this video you see the real thing, such as the woman in the long skirt chasing a flock of fowl this way and that up a slope. One fowl is a foul bird, either stupid or bolshy and keeps running out of reach and having to be guided back.
Once you have watched one of these Yiddish song videos, YouTube sends you links to more.
I tried with my knowledge of basic German to gather the gist of the songs.
I recognized the words ich habe, I have, and jugen, joungsters or young men or youth.

You can also find sing with me Yiddish songs with transaltion, modern zoom.
