How To Enjoy Porridge: Scottish, English, Asian, American, Canadian, DIY

Porridge Problems

For breakfast in Scotland, have porridge, which is bland but tasty when served with salt the Scottish way. In English hotels and homes you are served porridge sweetened.
In Asia, in homes, hotels, shopping centre food courts, restaurants including the lounges at airports, a savoury breakfast porridge may contain meats or fish shredded, and spicy ingredients. You can buy Scottish porridge oats in supermarkets.

Porridge Answers
In Singapore we had trouble finding reasonably priced crushed small porridge oats. Supermarkets stocked porridge meal, fine like grits or flour.

We bought the large oats and put them in a coffee grinder. Stop the machine quickly and you get something near the kind sold in the UK.

DIY porridge is bland. Add a little salt to taste. For a sweet flavour, add sultanas, and/or a teaspoon of maple syrup.

Maple Syrup
Most of the world's maple syrup comes from Canada but a small amount comes from the USA. Cheaper brands use only a proportion of maple syrup. We buy Canadian maple syrup, 100% maple syrup, brand name Buckwud. It has that magic maple syrup flavour.
