Problem
A tin mining museum in Malaysia? Worth a stop? Yes, why not.
Tin was used in tin cans, everything tinned in the olden days. In Singapore an area near Beauty World on the Downtown MRT train line is called Bukit Timah, or tin hill (literally hill tin).
Malay Language
The Malays say bahasa Malay, Malay language, to distinguish it from Malay people, a handy reminder that in Malay adjectives are after nouns so the adjective, Malay, comes after the noun, bahasa, language.
As you drive along, you will often see signposts with the words Jalan or Lorong meaning streets and roads and lanes.
Jalan is also journey, as the root word for a noun (a journey) and a verb (pedestrian stroll or vehicle travel).
Malay Names
If you travel from Singapore to Malaysia, as I do, you will pick up the Singapore MRT map and see station names such as Bukit Panjang and near Beauty world the bus passes Bukit Timah Community Club. Bukit Timah means tin hill, or hill where tin mining took place.
Malaysia's tin mining museum is about 7 miles from the centre of Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur (KL for short). The entry cost is about 5 Malay ringgit.
The opening times are most mornings with a long gap for lunch and most afternoon Monday to Saturday. Closed Sunday and public holidays - just when I would expect most people want to visit, but that's the way it is.
Check the current opening times. They may get more or less funding and change hours.
What can you see? You'll find numerous photos on TripAdvisor.
The museum has a scale model of the entire area, several life-size depictions with life size figures, machinery, and outside are vehicles with big wheels.
