I love this lime green outfit worn by the President of Jurong Green English Toastmasters club in Singapore.
He told me he had the same outfit in blue.
The president told us about the Hindu festival of Deepavali celebrated in Singapore, especially in Little India, by Singapore's Indian community.
He also explained why the Jurong Green Toastmasters Speakers' Club had changed its name from Jurong Green Advanced to Jurong Green English. The name advanced had discouraged newcomers from attending and joining the club. So the club decided to drop the word Advanced. Jurong Green Community Club (the community building), already hosts a Mandarin speaking club, so calling another club just Jurong Green Toastmasters Club would cause confusion. Whether the new name will result in an increase in membership will be seen over the next year. By Deepavali next year, the committee will know.
The green outfit for Deepavali is very appropriate for a club at Jurong Green, don't you agree!
