Oddities in Albanian Hotel Bedrooms, Electric Curtains, and Bathrooms with Glass Walls

What do I love about Albania? I love the friendly people. When it comes to physical things, bathrooms, the water is fabulously soft, unlike London' harsh water. In Albania your skin feels soft.

We started our Albanian trip at the hotel in remote Theth in the Balkan mountains. It claims four stars. I don't know the criteria.

What does it have? A beautiful spa.

The Spa

Lovely chilled water cabinet with bottles of water containing mint or other herbs.

However, you might miss out on some of the attractions. There is no guide as to how to turn on the Jacuzzi. If you stayed there one night, you might not even see the Jacuzzi.

No hand rail by the steps. The spa area opens from 10 am. No time for a pre breakfast swim. But it is open late.

The Bedrooms

The best part was the beds. Great beds. Deep mattresses. Soft tops. Sound sleep.

Disadvantages.  The bedrooms had two hangers for each person. We were there for a week.

Chairs or Stools in Theth, how many?

In Theth, one round stool. Between two people. No good for a couple who both want to use laptops. Nor for anybody on business who does not want to get backache.

Only One Stool in the bedroom In the Crown Hotel, Tirana

We had the same problem in our next hotel in Tirana,  which was luxurious, The Crown Hotel. (We arrived late at night at the weekend. Staff  found a second round stool first thing in the morning). We have had the same trouble worldwide.

(In the USA we occasionally got one chocolate on the bed between two people. I once phoned down and said, 'You have half an hour to send up a second chocolate. Alternatively, after half an hour call the police, because whichever once of us eats the only chocolate will get murdered by the other person." I got a second chocolate.)

Small Balcony

We had paid extra for a balcony. We imagined sitting on the balcony. But there was only room to stand, no room for chairs. All the same, it was good to look out, stand outside, less claustrophobic. Was it a smoking balcony? Rooms were non smoking.

The Crown hotel

Electrically Operated Curtains. My dream.

Firstly, no sign anywhere The switches did not work. Operated erratically. We tried to pull the curtains and they got caught on the top of the door which swung inwards.

Stiff shower by the toilet.

La Brisa Hotel, Dhermi

The ultimate in luxury.

what

The glass enabled you to see from the bathroom through the shower. However, the glass enabled you to see from the bed to somebody on the toilet. In the shower you could be seen. I later discovered a button which seemed to mist up the shower window.

Floor to ceiling mirror in the bedroom was great. Loads of room for two to sit at computers on a desk.
