Where can I get cookery kits?
Answers
You can buy seasonal gingerbread kits for children and adults to decorate biscuits or build houses at Christmas, Halloween and all year.
The different types include:
Biscuit To Decorate
Simple biscuits for you to decorate. This quick and easy kit makes a Christmas stocking filler, or an activity for a birthday party.
Biscuit houses
Biscuit houses come in two types. In one kit you stick and build the biscuits together to make the house. Then decorate the pieces. The second system is a ready-made house. You simply have to decorate it. no construction.
Trains
I liked the train. Lots of people have gingerbread houses. I know they are a novelty for children. Put one in the centre of the table.
Sometimes you have forgotten and the next year you find it seems novel again. But if you like to keep a photo album showing something different in year two, for a change, make a train. Or, maybe a house at one end of your table or buffet display, and a train at the end.
I had a similar kit bought in England on sale in January after Christmas from a small local branch of Tesco in London, England. I looked at the use by date and the item lasted until a family birthday. I gave it to a family member for a birthday. It made an impressive centrepiece for a dinner party. The kit did not re-appear the following year. So it's good to know that you can find a gingerbread kit in the USA.
You can buy these kits all over the USA. Probably in Canada, too, which is where they come from.
Consider whether you want to eat your house straight away, or leave it out on display. If you leave it out, it may not be at its freshest when you come to eat it. You might have the biscuits for eating and leave the house intact for a second day or two. (You could make two houses.)
You'll find recipes and directions for making gingerbread houses from scratch from the BBC and all over the internet. (Yes, if you've got time.) Kits are useful if you want to be sure of a display for a party, if you are short of time and energy, if you need somebody else to help you get started.
Did I say Thanksgiving, snowmen biscuits? Much more.
