It means white wine made from white grapes. Only white grapes. No surprises there. But actually, black or red grape skins are used in blush wine. Think of it this way. Some small amounts of the strongly flavoured dark skins of dark skinned grapes are added to modify or enhance flavour. Would you believe, Champagne. Look at the grapes listed in wine descriptions. You can add sugar to porridge in England, and salt to porridge in Scotland. It is a small amount. You don't see it. The colour of the porridge does not change but the flavour is different. Those in the know, who like to check ingredients, when buying. Or drinking, and to have their thoughts confirmed.and to prove a point to sceptics, are pleased to see the grapes ingredients listed.
Champagne is an area of France. In the EU you can only call your sparkling wine as Champagne if it is from the Champagne area of France.
