The Louis Braille Museum, read Braille dots in lifts and visit a skatepark for the blind

Braille, who invented Braille.

Wikipedia gives a good account of the life of Louis Braille, the inventor of the Braille alphabet and numbers.
Also read Wikipedia's page about the Braille language of raised dots. It is all based on a six dot grid. That explains the mysterious signs you see in lifts.i always wondered why you don't have three dots for three and four for four, like dominos, which seems simpler to me. I can just about grasp that one dot is number one or letter a, two dots in a vertical line, like a colon in punctuation, means 2 or the letter b in Braille. Two horizontal dots is three or the letter c.
Derivation (colored dots) of the 26 letters of the alphabet from the 10 numeric digits (black dots).

You can visit the museum about Braille at his birthplace about 20 miles east of Paris, France. His birthday is celebrated in January, when hotel prices are down and many places are shut. August the restaurants shut in hot cities as everybody in France goes to the beach for their summer holiday. Well, not everybody, but the owner of that restaurant you were hoping to visit.

Slightly off season would be a good time to go. but do check opening times , especially closing seasons and closing days which might be Monday, and last entry.
