Problem
What's that weird vehicle on the road? At the back it has one wheel facing forward towards us driving behind. Is it part of the lorry (which the Americans call a truck)? Surely not. It must be another vehicle attached. What is it?
Answer
I enlarged my photo and read the name on the side of the vehicle. It was Ge-Be Transport of Kings Lynn.
The following weekend I found their website:
www.gebetransport.co.uk
I read right the way through all the pages until I found a photo, then a brand name for Moffett fork lift.
Was that it?
I googled Moffett fork lift trucks.
I found another company, atlaspolar.com which had a video of safety using the Moffett fork lift truck, how you attach it, plus text about the advantages.
Apparently you fix it onto the back of your truck when making deliveries and carry it with you to the destination so you don't have to wait at a factory for the recipients to find and bring up a fork lift truck. You can unload straight way, saving time.
It can also be used when no other mechanical device for helping you to unload is available. For example, your driver might be delivering construction materials on rough terrain.
So, next time we see one on the road, or in a parking area on an industrial site, we know what it is.
