These jolly musicians amused me. Later, on closer inspection of the picture I notice that the one on the left has a double base and on the right is a violin.
On my third look at my photo later I see that the characters are not both equally happy. The smaller, base player is tired of waiting for his turn, one arm akimbo, mouth turned down. At the same time, the tall violinist is tanding nonchalantly, with ankles crossed, and continues playing.
The humorous, comical effect is created by the pom-pom buttons worn by both, the spiky Bohemian haircuts, the exaggerated high hats.
They appeared intermittently on tiles around the ladies' toilets at Yio Chu Kang MRT station on the red north-south MRT railway line.
They are leaning away from each other. yet a line of stars dividing them unites them in the music, and echoes the diagonal lines of the double bass, the coat and the bass players left leg on the right in the picture.
Wait a minute - is that a double bass or a cello? By the way, I am told that a cello is played sitting down, whilst a double bass is played standing up.
