Hampers are given to business contacts in Singapore for Chinese New Year, just as hampers are sold in stores in London such as Harrods for Christmas and New Year.
The Chinese New Year follows the lunar calendar. ,
So does the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah - rosh is head and ha is the in Hebrew). Jewish New Year is in autumn.
Chinese harvest festival with moon cakes is in the autumn. So you can celebrate all year. Shops and supermarkets always have something to sell you each season.
See my other post on Yu Sheng Chinese New Year dinners.
