You log onto a hotel's system. How safe is it?
What can you do to protect yourself? Some people say:
Don't use your credit card on any wifi system. Go to the hotel's front desk, ask the concierge or receptionist to book your hotels and evening shows and day trips, pay them cash, get a receipt, ask them to print your tickets, and let them book on your behalf using their own wifi and their own credit card.
Make sure you know in whose name the ticket is booked if you are picking up tickets at a theatre or another venue. Your booking may be under your surname, your first name (in Asia suranames are first), the hotel name, the hotel manager's name, or the name of the holidng company for the hotel group.
A hotel with no wifi can be a nuisance if you need to check in fro your flight online. You could find a travel agent. If they book you tours around the city (as one did for us in Cambodia), they might also be happy to check you in for your flight. Anybody who has signs asking you to recommend them on TripAdvisor is likely to be keen on keeping customers happy.
